Adult Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is the process of exploring an individual’s experiences, emotions, relationship dynamics, personality and history in order to promote insight and self-awareness. This self-understanding empowers the individual to cope better with their lives, careers and relationships, and even obtain mastery and increased fulfilment within them. Psychotherapy also offers a warm, safe and supportive environment in which to come to terms with the more uncomfortable of life’s realities.
The majority of the people I work with, and have worked with, utilise my services for any combination of the following:
- Depression and anxiety
- Illness, bereavement and loss
- Adjusting to change, e.g. retirement, divorce, emmigration
- Relationship issues
- Overcoming negative patterns stemming from childhood
- Understanding and transcending “life ruts” and a general feeling of “stuckness”
- Sexuality – lesbian and gay issues, specifically “coming out” and being ok with it
- “BIG” decision making
- Recovery from traumatic events, e.g. crime, accidents, life shocks
- Executive coaching: leveraging increased self-awareness and psycho-education to be more effective and authentic in the workplace
- Coaching towards a defined goal
I do not work with extreme psychopathology (eg. Schizophrenia / Dementia), but am happy to make relevant referrals.
